About me
Tell me about you:
I'm based in the United Kingdom. I don't really understand why, except that the wife likes it here in the rain.. it must be the rain, or maybe the extortion they call tax in the UK... but in any case I would have to leave her here if I was staying abroad, so it's likely I'll be here forever.
Actually I bought my first Porsche cars in early 2011. It was a 2008 Turbo Cabriolet and was a cool car with few miles, but a hefty price, as I suppose most Porsche cars are unless you buy one of the older models. I could have bought an older one, but decided against that to ensure that my 'wheels' actually continued to turn for the duration.
Tell me more:
When I bought the Porsche Turbo I had every intention of keeping it, but as things go, I had an excursion in to a Range Rover after the Turbo... don't ask why but lets just say that I am married and have been for some time.. and you know how things go, sometimes it's anything to keep the peace. It's not that the white range rover I had was bad, (except for the 12k loss on the Porsche Turbo - yes really) but I don't really sell iced cream :-) and the boys at my workplace were picking fun out of me.
I see:
Likely you do... so I threw the Turbo 991 in part exchange to the Range Rover at a whopping loss which at the time was hard to swallow... at least until it was time to sell the Range Rover then things got REALLY expensive.
The Range Rover did stay for a short while. Some of its features were awful. So after about 8 months of being called Mr Whippy I bought a 1 year old red Porsche Carrera S 2012... (in December 2012). Actually the red ones are quite hard to find as many guys prefer white, grey or black. I struggle to understand why - you will still get speeding tickets no matter what colour your Porsche is :-) And there was another thing, as part of the deal (with the wife) the car MUST NOT be white, grey or black and that for a Porsche was reasonably hard to find in perfect condition with low miles etc. But eventually I did find one at Porsche Wilmslow and bought it. That's my current car and is likely to stay that way for some time to come because of the cost. To say it was expensive is an understatement, but I guess we only live once, right? At least that's my excuse.
Anything else?:
Sure is... Before the turbo I had an Audi TTRS (black). I did not keep that too long, especially because of the failures on it... lets just say that a steering rack at 8 months old and hardly any miles (9k) is not my idea of a great car - it was a PX against the Turbo... likely I will never go back to Audi. I also tried a R8 when I was buying the TTRS but frankly was not impressed in a number of areas with the R8 and the performance seemed 'average' to 'poor' for something costing that much money. It seemed a little lacking in substance if you get what I mean.
Is there more?:
Yes, before the TTRS I had a rather special car (at least here in the UK). It was a Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car from 2007, which I really liked and kept a few years. But eventually I sold that privately (as it was beginning to age) to a guy in Germany... he drove here to collect it. The Pace Car won every single event I put it in to here in the UK and was really well known because it was literally the only one here. The Indy Pace Car had a special register in the USA and they confirmed that it was basically the only one outside the USA at that time and all the other 499 made they knew about and none were anywhere in the UK or Europe.
Lastly?:
And... before the Pace Car I owned a Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) from 2005 which I imported personally. My wifes favourite car (actually I liked it, it was a great car), and this one had a 6L corvette engine in it. While not the fastest street rod on the block (it was still very fast), it would turn heads far more than any other car I have ever owned. I sold that to a multi-millionaire somewhere in Spain and they collected it. I trust he still has it.
I have owned many more similar cars to these mentioned and over time I may add some of them as and when I have time or inclination to do it.
Heres a picture of me winning a Corvette National event in the UK with the Indy Pace Car - 'best in class'.. I'm in there somewhere, but if you can't pick me out then that's a good thing really where the internet is concerned. And I won't be extending this any further on this site. The internet CAN cost you dearly.
